So… I’m stuck in the middle of a break-up between my brother and his ex-girlfriend. My brother only introduced her to me and the family last month and we actually hit it off and became pretty chill friends. She’s honestly a very nice and genuine person. Fast forward a month later, she texted me saying my brother had asked for a “break”… over text. Girl, imagine how confused I was. I was fuming. OVER TEXT?! He texted and I quote: “bye for now.” And the wild part? My brother was happily prepping to summit a mountain two days later. He seemed pretty zen packing his equipment while this poor girl was crying to me, asking if she should move on or still hold on. Allegedly, my brother wanted to take a break because he couldn’t handle the whole “where are yous, who are you with” questions. Mmkay, maybe valid if you communicate properly, but over text? Anyway, after he returned from his summit, the first thing he did was unfollow his ex on all his socials. No update, no explanation, just… poof, ghost mode. At this point, I honestly felt so sorry for her. Lowkey, I was having second-hand embarrassment watching it all unfold. 

Here’s my dilemma: I actually like her as a friend. She’s kind, easy to talk to and we vibe really well. But she’s also my brother’s ex. Part of me feels guilty for even keeping in touch with her like I’m somehow betraying my brother. At the same time, I don’t want to just drop her when she’s clearly going through it. So now I’m stuck in this awkward in-between. Do I continue being her friend and risk things being weird with my brother? Or do I pull away and leave her to deal with it on her own, even though that feels kinda cold?
