Author of the Week, or commonly known as AOTW, is a weekly article where you can showcase your word game skills by taking part in a number of fun literacy games based around a theme to win diamonds and badges! 

You can join us bi-weekly to show off your best creative writing for everyone to read and enjoy. There will be different prompt options for storytelling and poetry, which will be explained each time in the written submission section of the article.

No copying work from other sources (i.e. online stories, books etc).

Your submission must follow the theme.

All short stories must be approximately 100 to 1000 words.

Only the user who submitted will receive the prize.

Only submit via Google Doc links. 

You cannot place two written submission themes in a row.

You must not use ChatGPT or any other AI.

Keep your submission Safe for Work (SFW). 

Only your first entry to any segment will be accepted.

You cannot place in both mini games and written submissions within the same week.

 NOTE: Breaking any rule can easily result in disqualification without hesitation and more rules may be added in the future without warning if necessary.

Fantasy

Written submissions are a classic part of AOTW, winners are announced bi-weekly for this segment.

For this theme you’re asked to write a short story or poem inspired by the theme Fantasy!

Here are some prompts to get you started:

You discover a spell that has been banned for hundreds of years. What happens when you cast it?

You find a shop that sells magical objects. The shopkeeper tells you that one item was made specifically for you. 

Create your own fantasy kingdom. Describe its people, creatures, magic, landmarks, and biggest danger.

Tell a complete fantasy story in exactly 100 words. 

Tell the story from the perspective of the fantasy world's villain.

These are only prompts, feel free to come up with your own and be as creative as you’d like!

Please be reminded that we do check for ChatGPT/AI. If this is found your submission will be disqualified.

These prizes are only available for the Written Submission section.

You have 30 days from when the article is published to collect any badges.

Welcome to the Mini Games section of AOTW! Here you will find a variety of games to complete weekly. Each mini game winner will receive 100 Diamonds and can choose one of the badges below if you place! 

Please keep in mind that all mini games are submitted to the same form that you can find within the submissions section of this article. If you do not want to complete a certain game you can keep it blank within the submission form!

Welcome to Dictionary!

Dictionary is a game where you’re given definitions of 8 different words along with the letter they begin with. Do your best to work out what word belongs to each definition!

F - one of a class of supernatural beings, generally conceived as having a diminutive human form and possessing magical powers with which they intervene in human affairs. 

C - the expression of a wish that misfortune, evil, doom, etc., befall a person, group, etc. 

C - to attract and hold the attention or interest of, as by beauty or excellence; enchant.

A - an exciting or very unusual experience.

D - a strong, dark prison or cell, usually underground, as in a medieval castle.

S - a weapon having various forms but consisting typically of a long, straight or slightly curved blade, sharp-edged on one or both sides, with one end pointed and the other fixed in a hilt or handle.

D - a mythical monster generally represented as a huge, winged reptile with crested head and enormous claws and teeth, and often spouting fire.

F - burning gas or vapor, as from wood or coal, that is undergoing combustion; a portion of ignited gas or vapor.
